We kept our Democratic Governor, John Lynch, yet many other positions were filled by Republicans. We finished our first quarter; already 25% of the school year is complete. Amazing! Our English classes have been reading, It's Not About the Bike. It's Lance Armstrong's story of getting cancer and all he went through as he battled this dreadful disease. Our students are in the middle of reading this story. The other classes, science and history, are exploring topics that are related to Lance's story. The students have taken a couple of bike trips; one where everyone had the opportunity to ride and others where students who wanted to ride could. That's been good.
I guess that's it for now. We have had many wonderful changes this school year. Let me tell you about a few. We have two new teachers; Ms. Tanguay, who teaches math and science and Ms. Quigley, who teaches history and art. Our third teacher is Ms. Poeleart, who teaches English is our veteran to the alternative program. Our director, Ms. Pelletier is still guiding our program and then, there's me, Ms. James. I did teach mostly social studies the last two years, yet this year I have a new position. I'm the social worker for the program. Students are able to meet with me when they are in crisis, or need support, or just want to talk. Additionally, I meet with small groups of students throughout the week to discuss issues prevalent to teenagers. I began a "quit smoking" group this week for students who would like to consider stopping. And, I am encouraging students in joining me on Mondays from 1:15 - 2:15 to knit. It's been an exciting school year and we have many students doing extremely well.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!

FOURTH QUARTER BEGINS

Today, April 3, the last of the four quarters of school begins. It's amazing that the school year has gone so quickly. There are three weeks left before spring break. Time just goes too fast. I read something the other day that I want to share. Let me know what you think.

What you already know can be a great help to you in learning new things. Yet at times, it can also get in the way.It can be difficult to clearly and objectively see something when you think you already know everything about it. In such cases, you will usually see only what you expect to see and nothing else.Think of the wealth of detail that you notice when you go to a place where you've never been before. Then consider all the many details in your familiar surroundings that you never even think about because you have seen them so often. The world is constantly changing. And some of your long-held assumptions about the things most familiar to you could be woefully out of date. It's likely that there are many valuable treasures all around your life, hidden and at the same time within plain sight. A good way to see them is to temporarily disregard what you already know.Every now and then, make it a point to look at the world with eyes untainted by expectations, assumptions or past experience. You'll be amazed at what you can see.

written by Ralph Marston

Emma Jean

This is Emma. She is a very smart dog and is an opportunist!

Mr. Brown

This is Berwick, sometimes called Mr. Brown. He comes to school everyday. His favorite activity is trying to get students to think he is hungry and feed him. Lucky for him, they don't because he would get way too fat. His next favorite activity is bringing slipper or stretch to someone so they can play. He loves to fetch and more than that, he loves to be pet.

It's great to be on February break.
